Dr. Vath and Dr. Wolfe usually place the implants through a periareolar or inframammary incision. Though there has been a lot attention given to the underarm incision site, many plastic surgeons believe the periareolar incision (around the edge of the areola) or the inframammary incision (under the breast within the crease) offers better overall results for their patients. Although the scars from the small incisions are permanent, they become relatively inconspicuous over time. Dr. Vath and Dr. Wolfe will use their expertise to inform you of the advantages and risks of each possible incision site and guide you in your decision. During your surgery, the doctors will create a pocket behind your breast inserting the implant in a position that is centered behind the nipple. Drainage tube placement is generally not necessary during breast augmentation surgery. The incisions will be closed with fine, absorbable sutures under the skin so there is no need for suture removal after surgery.
