At Rejuvenate, our non-surgical side of Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our goal for 2017 has been all about sharing new, wise, fun, and dynamic ways in which we love ourselves. In the past months, our newsletters and blog posts offered advice on loving your lashes and lips, finding the best makeup, and choosing a top-notch Medspa to pamper yourself.
This month we are sharing simple ideas around how each and every one of us can give to our communities, and in turn, feel better about ourselves. We make giving a priority in our business model and want to show you how we gave, how we plan to give, and offer simple ways you can give. How does this fit in with our theme, you may ask. Studies have proven a positive connection between giving and overall happiness. Loving ourselves is not only about stopping to smell the roses; it’s also about planting roses for everyone to enjoy.
How our Company gives back:
Our practice loves serving men and women who endeavor to look and feel their best. However, we aren’t naive to the fact that Cosmetic Surgery is a privilege. We find it extremely important to be active in our community and by offering assistance to under-served populations. This year the CCS family has made giving back to our community a priority by being involved in a non-profit project once per quarter. Not only does the community gain from our efforts, we also learn from the people we serve.
So far, we have:
Organized a Prom Dress Drive to support The Prom Dress Exchange. This effort collected over 35 lightly used Prom dresses for young women who otherwise would not be able to afford a dress. Our patients and employees banded together to make this event a success by putting smiles on their faces!
And, let’s not forget our furry friends. 2017 is the third year we will donate and walk in the Furry Scurry to end animal cruelty and homelessness. This fun walk benefits The Denver Dumb Friends League , a non profit, whose mission is “Working with our compassionate community, we will end pet homelessness and animal suffering.”
A group of employees and their spouses will also be walking in this Year’s Mother’s Day 5k which supports the Colorado Children’s Chorale. This will be our 3rd year participating in this event. It is such a fun and simple way to get outside and exercise with fellow mothers, grandmothers and community members to support keeping music for children alive in Denver.
Volunteering or giving back can be a fun way to feel connected with your community. Making time for it can be easily overlooked as we tend to go about our busy lives and assume that the community will get what it needs from someone else. We challenge you to ask yourself, “How can I love my community?” If you are at a loss of where to give, look into the Volunteer Match Program. They ask questions to help you understand what’s important to you; then they match your answers and skill set with a nonprofit in need within your zip code. Below are fun, simple, easy ways to give back:
- Volunteer at your local school
- Become a reading or tutoring partner for at risk youth
- Ask your company to sponsor you in a run for a cause
- Organize a coat drive or yard sale for the charity
- Give to your local food bank
- Serve on a Community Board
- Become a docent at your local museum, hospital or zoo
- Coach a local youth sports team
- Visit a Senior Center
- Check in on your neighbors; single mothers, elderly, etc.
- Connect with local chapters of:Habitat for HumanityMeals on Wheels
Giving is the purest way to express self love. Giving not only helps others, it helps you stay healthy. Did you know that giving actually gives you a glow and boosts your mood? There is a direct link between giving and happiness. No one can deny a happy face is a beautiful face. In fact, a Harvard Business School study confirmed that “happier people give more and giving makes people happier, such that happiness and giving may operate in a positive feedback loop (with happier people giving more, getting happier, and giving even more).” A multi-institutional study proved giving and being unselfish can protect your health. Whether you give to look better, feel better or feel connected; giving is important and needed more now than ever before. Invest in yourself by giving back to your community. You will be glad you did!
