Your Personal Consultation
From the time you first contact our office, whether by email or phone, you can expect prompt, pleasant, and informative attention. A packet of information is mailed to you regarding your upcoming consultation and the staff is available to discuss preliminary questions and concerns over the phone.
Upon arriving at the Center for Cosmetic Surgery, you are given time to read over and fill out some paper work including the "patient's bill of rights" and a questionnaire on your medical history. You are then promptly greeted by one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Wolfe, Dr. Steinwald, or Dr. Vath, and engage in a lengthy, in-depth discussion of your goals and desires. Following this dialogue, an examination directed towards your personal plans is performed, where there is continued discussion aimed at procedures that will specifically benefit you.
Breast Surgery Consult
Measurements of your breasts are taken. Every effort is made during the examination to show you the kind of results that can be anticipated. If you are considering a breast lift or breast reduction, your breasts are manually positioned to roughly produce the possible surgical outcomes. When considering implant placement, a preview of your proposed look is achieved by trying on implants while looking in a mirror until you find the appearance that suits you. During the exam, there is ongoing discussion regarding the procedural options that will work best for you.
The areas of your body that have extra fat and/or loose skin are addressed. If liposuction is considered, your skin quality is discussed and the potential benefit of liposuction is explained for each area. When a tummy tuck or body lifting procedure is more appropriate, the exam will be directed towards defining which tissue is removed, where the scarring will be, and what can be tightened and lifted. Often, the lifted or tucked area can be demonstrated manually to give you a better idea of the feasible outcome of surgery.
You and your surgeon use a mirror to direct the examination and discussion of your facial goals and treatment options. A manual reproduction of the surgical outcome of a facelift, browlift, or blepharoplasty is performed to give you a reasonable idea of the results that can be achieved. You point out areas that bother you and the treatment options are explained in detail.
Your personal consult will include a thorough explanation of the treatment options that best suit your goals as well as a detailed discussion of the risks associated with the procedures being considered. Before-and-after pictures of patients operated upon by Dr. Wolfe, Dr. Steinwald, and Dr. Vath are reviewed to assist you in gaining a complete understanding of achievable results. Throughout your consult, time and attention is given to any questions that develop.
At the Center for Cosmetic Surgery, both of our experienced surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. We strongly feel that an extremely informed patient with reasonable expectations is most likely to be pleased with the results. It is essential that you and your plastic surgeon are "on the same page" regarding your procedural goals and we will do everything possible to ensure that this happens prior to undergoing surgery.
Ultimately, all decisions are yours. You will be presented with all the information you need to make a truly informed decision. Following your consult, you will find that Dr. Wolfe, Dr. Steinwald, and Dr. Vath, as well as the staff, are accessible to assist you with any further questions that arise.
