What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite describes the pockets of fat that collect just below the skin’s surface. It’s caused by fibrous brands, known as septa, that connect the skin to the underlying fascia. When septa bands pull downward on the skin, fat simultaneously pushes up around them, creating a lumpy or dimpled appearance.

Cellulite in the buttocks and thighs is significantly more common in women. While cellulite can be hereditary, it may also be triggered by any of the following conditions:

  • Hormones: Women are more susceptible to developing cellulite during “high estrogen” periods such as puberty, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • Weight Gain: Gaining weight can make cellulite appear more prominent.
  • Aging: Over time, skin loses elasticity, making it more susceptible to visible cellulite.
  • Skin Structure: Thinner skin is typically more prone to cellulite.

The Benefits of Avéli

As a minimally invasive cellulite reduction treatment, Avéli is an innovative treatment option. While other cellulite treatments use creams or lasers to reduce the appearance of fat dimples, Avéli targets the root cause of cellulite, removing problematic septa with high precision. Surrounding tissue is not disrupted. In addition to being a fast procedure with minimal downtime, it yields long-lasting results with a single treatment. Avéli can be safely combined with other body contouring procedures such as liposuction or a tummy tuck.

How Does Avéli Cellulite Reduction Work?

The Avéli handheld device features a lighted probe inserted beneath the skin. We guide the device to the precise treatment area, where we directly target and sever the septa bands causing your cellulite. This smooths out the skin and substantially reduces the appearance of cellulite. Avéli is performed using a local anesthetic; a typical treatment takes only about an hour.

What Is Recovery Like After Avéli?

Recovery after Avéli requires minimal downtime. Besides refraining from rigorous exercise while the treated skin heals, most patients can return to regular activities within a few days. Some mild discomfort, including bruising or swelling, is normal but resolves within about a week. Wearing compression garments helps minimize swelling.
