Paying for Experience

The first thing that comes to mind when you see dermal fillers or neuromodulators like BOTOX® Cosmetic advertised for a crazy-low price, or on a Groupon, should be, “I wonder who is doing the injection?” At our plastic surgery practice here in Denver, you can count on skilled and experienced providers. However, that isn’t the case everywhere you go. While low prices and once-in-a-lifetime deals may seem enticing, take a second look before you book your appointment. When you pay for injectables, you’re not just paying for the product. You’re also paying for the expertise of your injector, and that’s not something you want to skimp on.

The Truth About BOTOX Bargains

Different states have different regulations when it comes to cosmetic injections, but in Colorado, the rules are pretty loose. Here, practically anyone can do the injecting, including aestheticians. Allergan, the makers of BOTOX and the JUVEDERM® family of fillers, will only sell their products to a licensed physician. Because of this, many “med spas” pay local physicians to act as their medical directors so they can purchase and inject the products. In these situations, these medical directors are not on-site at the facility and typically rarely touch base with the injector. This means you’re not actually receiving proper medical care— hence the low price tag. Learn more about what affects plastic surgery pricing in our previous blog post.

Why CCS?

At the Center of Cosmetic Surgery, our priority is providing safe care, positive patient experiences, and excellent results. There are a few ways we make sure our service is exceptional:

  • We only have Registered Nurses or PAs performing injections. Additionally, 2 of our injection nurses have the highest level of certification for aesthetic nurses or plastic surgery nurses. Ann Marie and Sara are CANS (certified aesthetic nurse specialist) certified. The specialized training that they have undergone will ensure that you get the best possible results in the safest possible manner.
  • We are here for you. In the rare event of an unexpected outcome or complication, we see you through until it is resolved. We get calls all the time from people who went somewhere else, experienced one of the above, and because of how they were treated, are looking to us to fix it.
  • Our Medical Directors, Dr. Andrew Wolfe and Dr. Steven Vath, are on-site and available should any situation arise in which an injection nurse needs their input or opinion.

So, when you are comparing filler or neurotoxin prices, make sure that you are comparing apples to apples. You are not just paying for the product in the syringe, but for the training, experience, and talent of the person on the other side of the needle.
