Fillers vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic

The Center for Cosmetic Surgery

By now you’ve surely heard about injectable wrinkle treatments. And you probably know that BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most popular medical spa procedures in the country. But what about all those other injectables you’ve been hearing about, such as the JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® collections? These products – known as dermal fillers, tissue fillers, or injectable fillers – actually work in a different way and have different indications than BOTOX. Our Denver and Golden, Colorado, clients often want to learn more about the differences in these products, and while it may seem confusing at first, there are easy ways to distinguish these treatments and find the one that’s right for you.

BOTOX Cosmetic Explained

BOTOX Cosmetic primarily is used to improve areas of the upper face, such as lines in between the eyebrows and horizontal forehead creases. The purified protein contained in BOTOX encourages the targeted facial muscles to relax. Once these muscles have relaxed, surface wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement begin to fade, revealing smoother and more youthful looking skin.

BOTOX patients can erase the lines in between their brows, relax horizontal wrinkles on their forehead, and even improve the appearance of “crow’s feet,” those pesky lines radiating out from the outward edges of the eyes.

Dermal Fillers – A Whole New Look

Dermal fillers also are used to improve the appearance of facial wrinkles, but primarily are indicated for use on the lower portions of the face, including the cheeks, chin, and the area around the mouth. Wrinkles in these areas most often are created as a result of volume loss in the skin. Quite simply, tissue fillers plump up the skin beneath a wrinkle to create a smoother skin appearance.

At Rejuvenate!, we offer several different types of fillers, each specially formulated for certain types of wrinkles and each having its own longevity. Fillers like Restylane® Refyne and JUVÉDERM® Ultra last about 6 months to a year depending on the filler and where it is injected in the face.

Hi! I’m coming to see dr Vath for a follow up in the end of July. I was thinking of trying Botox for the first time at that same visit for my between the brows wrinkle.
How much is this treatment usually?

    • KBlatherwick says:

      Hi Nina,

To treat “the 11’s” is usually 14-18 units, so that would be $168 – $216.
