Temporary Dermal Fillers
Most plastic surgeons and medical skin care facilities have all but abandoned the use of collagen to restore volume to the face. Zyderm® and Zyplast® were among the first of the collagen fillers offered on the market before hyaluronic acid dermal fillers in Denver became popular. The use of Zyderm and Zyplast was complicated by allergies and the necessity for the patient to undergo skin tests prior to injection because the product was derived from cows.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers such as Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® in Denver have replaced collagen as the "go to" option for facial fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in the body and is essential for the appearance of plump and youthful-looking skin. Because the body produces HA naturally, it hardly ever causes an allergic reaction, and it gives a smoother, more natural appearance than collagen. In addition to looking and feeling more natural, hyaluronic acid fillers also last longer than collagen fillers of the past. HA fillers have been shown to last anywhere from 6 to 12 months (possible longer, depending on the metabolism of the patient). Another advantage of HA fillers is the fact that they are reversible. Though rarely needed, there is an enzyme called hyaluronidase that can be injected to reverse any unwanted cosmetic results within 24 hours.
