The CO2RE Procedure
Understanding Your CO2 Laser Resurfacing Procedure
The CO2RE differs from other fractional resurfacing lasers in that it uses 2 types of laser beams that penetrate to different depths — simultaneously. The CO2RE has up to 7 treatment modes to treat a variety of skin issues, making it the most versatile CO2 laser available today. The CO2RE offers dramatic results after just one session with less discomfort.
Results are noticeable by day 4 or 5 when the superficial tissue begins peeling off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath.
Expectations After Treatment
After your laser skin resurfacing treatment at our Denver practice, your skin will look and feel sunburned, and you will have yellow serous drainage and possibly some pinpoint bleeding. You will notice some swelling that will increase but should peak by day 3 or 4. You will be given extensive post-treatment instructions along with a care kit that includes 2 heavy moisturizers, an enzyme mask, a mild cleanser, and an SPF. Depending on the treatment plan you and your clinician have agreed upon, you will also be given some prescriptions that may include an anti-viral (to keep you from developing cold sores) and a steroid dose pack that will help with swelling. You will also need to purchase white vinegar to make a solution for facial soaks. Sun exposure must be limited for the first 5 days until you are able to tolerate using your SPF.
You may apply make-up when the skin is no longer crusting over or peeling, usually around day 7 after treatment. Dramatic improvements will continue to be noticeable over the next 1 to 3 months.
Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. The downtime associated with CO2 laser resurfacing in Denver is more "social" downtime than downtime associated with pain or discomfort. We recommend that you schedule your CO2RE procedure at least 7 to 10 days prior to any important social events, depending on the depth of your treatment. Ask your treatment provider for a more specific time frame.
Combining CO2RE with Surgery
Patients may choose to have CO2 laser resurfacing during a surgical procedure. Many of our patients combine fractional laser therapy with a facelift or mini facelift to enjoy the benefits a more youthful appearance with fresh-looking skin. The benefits of combining these 2 procedures also include feeling no discomfort because you are anesthetized from the surgical procedure.
