CoolTone™

CoolTone LogoEven women and men who lead active lives and exercise regularly can reach a plateau in their efforts to create the sculpted, contoured body they want. This is especially true for the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. CoolTone is a nonsurgical body contouring procedure that uses advanced technology to isolate and tone targeted muscle groups. The Center for Cosmetic Surgery now offers CoolTone for people from the metro Denver area, Colorado Springs, and beyond.

What Is CoolTone?

CoolToneEven though CoolTone was developed by the company behind CoolSculpting®—a pioneering nonsurgical fat reduction treatment—the procedures achieve their results using different technologies. CoolSculpting reduces fat by “freezing” fat cells with controlled cooling. CoolTone triggers involuntary muscle contractions with an innovative technology called magnetic muscle stimulation (MMS), simulating crunches and squats. Instead of 50 or 100 situps, however, the electromagnetic energy delivered during a 30-minute CoolTone session is similar to doing 25,000 situps if you’re targeting the abdominal area. The body’s response to these involuntary contractions is to strengthen the muscle fibers underneath the targeted treatment area, so the result is stronger, firmer, and more defined muscles.

CoolTone is cleared by the FDA to enhance the muscle tone of the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs.

What Is a CoolTone Treatment Like?

If you can’t imagine what it would be like to do 25,000 crunches in 30 minutes, you’re not alone. Fortunately, that’s not the experience you have during a CoolTone treatment. A treatment begins with the patient lying down. The provider then attaches a device that looks like a paddle to the treatment area. When the noninvasive device is activated, magnetic energy travels through the patient’s skin and fat, stimulating involuntary muscle contractions. Unlike doing situps or squats, patients don’t experience discomfort during the procedure. You will feel sore after a CoolTone session, similar to what you might feel after a particularly intense workout.

No downtime is needed after the treatment, but it’s important to hydrate to flush lactic acid from the muscles and minimize post-treatment discomfort.

Treatment sessions typically last around 30 minutes, and we recommend an initial series of 4 procedures spaced one month apart. To learn more about what to expect during your CoolTone treatment, visit our Rejuvenate website.

Can I Combine CoolTone With Other Treatments?

One of the benefits of coming to a plastic surgery practice for a CoolTone treatment is you’ll get an expert’s assessment of whether the procedure is right for you and if combining CoolTone with other treatments is recommended. Many patients considering CoolTone also want to reduce stubborn pockets of fat and tighten skin. CoolTone and CoolSculpting complement each other by toning muscle and reducing fat. Skin tightening procedures can produce the overall results patients want.

Men and women who are already in good physical shape but want to tone and contour specific areas are excellent candidates for combining procedures.

What Is Recovery Like After CoolTone?

You can return to work or any other routine daily activities immediately after a CoolTone treatment. You can expect to feel sore for the rest of the day. Patients typically start seeing results about 2 to 4 weeks after the final treatment session, and many schedule follow-up treatments to maintain their results.
